Cocktail Bar · Shinsaibashi

Cinquecento

Australian-owned Cinquecento is a long-running Shinsaibashi favourite where locals, expats and visitors naturally mix. Its wraparound bar makes it easy to meet people, whether you arrive alone or with friends, while the extensive ¥500 martini menu is its signature.

Our tip: Come earlier for a proper chat with Anthony and the regulars. Come later for the livelier version.

Fukufuku-dou

Fukufuku-dou is packed with bold Japanese souvenir jackets, known as sukajan, covered in intricate embroidered tigers, dragons, koi and character designs. It also carries Japanese streetwear, anime collaborations and irreverent Osaka T-shirts for anyone seeking a less predictable souvenir.

Our tip: Give yourself time to browse and try a few jackets on. The fit, weight and embroidery vary between designs, and they often look quite different once worn.

Cocktail Bar · Dontonbori

Subterra

Hidden one floor beneath Dotonbori, Subterra pairs inventive cocktails with hip-hop, R&B and a sociable international crowd. It is relaxed enough for conversation on quieter nights, then shifts into a livelier late-night bar when DJs and events take over.

Our tip: Start with the Shinsekai, its award-winning, tea-infused and smoked take on an Old Fashioned. If you cannot find the bar, look for the staircase leading down to the basement.

Nightclub · Dontonbori

Gala Resort

One of Osaka’s largest nightclubs, GALA RESORT spreads across multiple floors with immersive lighting, live performers and DJs playing hip-hop, EDM, K-pop and global hits. Its Dotonbori location draws a large mix of locals and international visitors until 5am.

Our tip: Bring valid photo ID and dress smart casual. Sandals, sweatpants, tank tops and exposed tattoos can mean refused entry. On weekends, aim to arrive before midnight.
